How to handle my assigned shift?

What can I do during my shifts?

Do you want to adjust your shift personally? Start with job crafting! Job crafting is a way to make your job more energizing and it will give you more motivation. We define six types of job crafting:

Chrono:
I decide on the order in which things are done on the job based on my energy levels.

Time:
I choose my working hours based on my energy levels.

Task:
Change the scope or types of tasks.

Cognitive:
Think about how your job gives your life purpose

Social:
Engage in networking activities to establish more relationships

Context:
I look at my work environment and try to change it, for example, adding a plant or personal photos

Remember that the smallest things can help!

Do you want to work with social crafting? You can do more than only looking at your relationships at work. We know that shiftwork can have an impact on your private life, so do something with this as well. Therefore, we give a few tips:

  • Talk to friends and family about shiftwork. If they understand the problems you are facing it will be easier for them to be supportive and considerate;
  • Make your family and friends aware of your shift schedule so they can include you when planning social activities (make a giant calendar with your family or friends so where you can plan things with them);
  • Make the most of your time off and plan mealtimes, weekends, and evenings together;
  • Plan your domestic duties around your shift schedule and try to ensure that you do not complete them at the cost of rest/sleep. You may need to change the times/days when some jobs are done
